About Us

Citizens Advice

Citizens Advice is the UK’s largest advice charity representing nearly 400 regional Citizens Advice charities across England and Wales.  Each individual Citizens Advice is an independent charity and helps people in the local area by providing free, independent, confidential and impartial advice and campaigning for better policies.

Citizens Advice LeicesterShire

Citizens Advice LeicesterShire serves people in Leicester and Leicestershire (except for Charnwood, which remains independent). We have a number of branches and outreach venues across the county covering Blaby, Market Harborough, Coalville, Melton Mowbray, Hinckley, Oadby and Wigston, Leicester and Lutterworth.

We offer practical, up-to-date information and advice on a wide range of topics including debt, benefits, housing, family issues, discrimination, employment, immigration, and other problems.

  • Providing the advice people need for the problems they face.
  • Improving the policies and practices that affect people’s lives.
  • Valuing diversity, promote equality and challenge discrimination.

Citizens Advice LeicesterShire is funded by a mix of core funding from county and district councils, competitive tenders, and particular services funded by charitable grants, like Macmillan.

Our Service

Clients can phone or e-mail our contact centre, or visit one of our branches where we carry out a short introductory interview to help decide how clients can be best advised. Clients may then be offered a longer, in-depth advice appointment at one of our branches or outreach venues.  Clients experiencing debt problems may also receive specialist casework to help resolve their financial worries.

The service as a whole depends on volunteers; of 26,000 people involved with Citizens Advice nationally, 20,000 of them are volunteers.  Find out more on our Volunteers  page.

Citizens Advice LeicesterShire is governed by a Trustee Board, chaired by Malcolm Flaherty.  The Board determine the corporate strategy of the charity, including setting key strategic objectives and making major decisions about the use of finances.  Citizens Advice LeicesterShire is led by the Chief Executive Officer, Richard Evans, and a management team.

Citizens Advice LeicesterShire is committed to diversity and wants to build a strong and diverse Trustee Board that reflects the communities it serves. We welcome applications from all backgrounds, in particular young professionals, BAME people and women.
